Tips In Organizing Your Elderly Loved One’s Bedroom

Tips-In-Organizing-Your-Elderly-Loved-One's-Bedroom

A clean home offers a lot of benefits to the occupants. It keeps the occupants healthy since a messy environment can be a breeding ground for lots of disease-causing bacteria. Aside from that, the individuals will also be able to stay calm emotionally.

One characteristic of a clean home is being organized. In the case of your elderly, an organized home will help keep him safe and healthy. When organizing your elderly loved one’s bedroom where he spends a lot of time in, check the following tips which can help you out:

The closet

It can be tempting to just shove clothes from the laundry directly to the closet, resulting to the clothes being in disarray. Your elderly loved one might have a difficult time looking for and finding the clothes he needs to wear at a certain point. To avoid this situation, make it a point to fold the clothes properly and arrange them accordingly when putting them inside the closet.

The clothes that your elderly wears frequently must be in front or in an area that he can easily locate and reach. Doing so will help make everything easier for him. Clothes that are appropriate for other seasons of the year should either be placed at the top, further back or stored separately.

The bed

You should make sure that the bed has the appropriate dimensions with which your elderly loved one will fit. The pillows and the mattress must all be comfortable for him. Otherwise, it will be hard for your elderly loved one to sleep soundly during the night.

The side tables

If side tables are present, they will be great places where the elderly can put on his medications, a glass of water or his eyeglasses. Make sure that the side tables have enough surface space. They should also be sturdy as they can aid the elderly in balancing when getting off the bed.

The floor

Make sure that the floor is free from clutter. Otherwise, even a single item left on the floor can cause an accidental fall, thereby, resulting to an injury. Keep the floor dry at all times.

The lighting

Bright lights should illuminate the bedroom to help your elderly loved ones clearly see what is in front of them. If you can, you might want to install lights with motion sensors so that he will not have to locate the switch to turn the lights on.
