6 Reasons Why Gardening Is Good for Seniors

6-reasons-why-gardening-is-good-for-seniors

Don’t you think there are a lot more things you can do with your lawn? If you agree, then how about trying your hand out at gardening? It will make your home look cozier, and besides…

  1. It’s fun.

Gardening is a great way to reconnect with Mother Nature. It teaches you that even the simplest things in life (like flowers, for example) can bring you joy. Gardening is a hobby which gives you a gentle reminder that life is beautiful and that there is so much more you can look forward to. You just need to keep your head up and focus on the positive things in life.

  2. It’s relaxing.

Have you ever sat on a park bench surrounded by all the lush greenery? You can just sit there for hours and feel the cool breeze gently caressing your skin. Ah, isn’t it wonderful? Well, with gardening, you can take that same experience right at home! Just think about it, once your garden is in full bloom, sitting on the porch or patio will be a more rewarding experience.

  3. It provides opportunities to learn.

You will not only know about caring for plants in gardening. Making your own compost for fertilizer will teach you the importance of segregating waste. If you’re growing a vegetable or herb garden, you’d be more inclined to try out new recipes. There’s so much to learn from gardening once you start putting your heart and mind into it!

  4. It encourages socializing.

Other garden enthusiasts you meet at a hobby shop will be more than happy to give you some tips. A nice home garden makes a good conversation starter with the neighbors, too. You might even join a club or group about gardening where you can make new friends with similar interests!

  5. It improves physical activity.

Growing plants from seeds look easy, but it actually keeps both your mind and body occupied. Certain plants need more water, while some prefer to grow in shade than in sunlight. Positioning potted plants, loosening soil, and watering seeds serve as a great exercise. You’d be working up a lot of sweat in no time!

  6. It’s a great way to bond.

Who said gardening is supposed to be a one-man task? It is actually an activity you can definitely share with friends and family. You don’t even have to worry about conversation topics either, you can go right ahead and share gardening facts that you have learned from your experience. Or better yet, you could even convince them to try gardening on their own, too!
